Mona Romain has served as an elected trustee of the New York City Teachers' Retirement System since 1998. She shares with her fellow board members the fiduciary responsibility of overseeing the policies, funding, and investments of the system. Ms. Romain is assistant treasurer of the United Federation of Teachers, a member of the UFT Executive Board, and a member of UFT and NYSUT Pension and Retirement Committees. In her capacity as special representative of the UFT, she has been involved in training pension counselors, conducting pension workshops for in-service and retired members, and writing articles on retirement for the UFT pension publications. Ms. Romain was a teacher of mathematics at the secondary-school level for many years prior to her work in the pension arena. She holds a BS, an MS, and an advanced certificate in administration and supervision from the City University of New York. Ms. Romain also attended the Wharton School Executive Education Program and received a certificate in pension funds and money management. Mona is a member of the NCPERS Executive Board, where she serves as chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Budget and By-Laws Committees.
