Trustee Educational Seminar

Two days prior to the annual conference, over 200 trustees participated in a two-day seminar designed to review the basics for trustees. Those attending earned 8 hours of continuing education that covered the following topics: Elements for All Trustees; Rebalancing Your Portfolio - A Practical Exercise; Creating Educational Policy Guidelines; Understanding Actuarial Assumptions and Funding; De-mystifying Charts and Graphs; How to Read Investment Manager's Reports; and Legal Update on Pension Issues for Trustees. At the conclusion of the seminar, NCPERS President Bob Podgorny presented certificates to all who attended and completed the trustee educational seminar.

A group exercise was held to rebalance the mock pension fund created at last year's conference. This year, participants learned about the return of last year's investment portfolio and were given the opportunity to rebalance the fund with additional investment options. The members of the winning team were designated as "Trusty Trustees" and presented with awards from Russ Kuhns, President and CEO of R. V Kuhns & Associates, who conducted the rebalancing exercise.
