NCPERS and Bridging the Gap Classroom/Library Makeover Program In May 2008, the NCPERS 68th Annual Conference will be held in New Orleans. Everyone is aware of the devastation visited upon New Orleans in 2005. However, many people may be unaware of the continuing struggles of the city and its citizens—particularly in the public school system. In an effort to help in the restoration of New Orleans, NCPERS has established a new charitable 501(c)(3) foundation whose objective in 2008 will be to make a sizeable monetary gift to the New Orleans Public School System in support of their "Bridging the Gap Classroom/Library Makeover Program." The Bridging the Gap Classroom/Library Makeover Program is a project that seeks to help teachers improve the learning environment for students by investing resources to renovate classrooms, libraries, or media rooms that are in need of restoration. This program is supported by organizations such as United Teachers of New Orleans, ACORN, Lowe's, Home Depot, Exxon-Mobil, the Green Project and the Gulf Coast Workforce Development Agency.
