CIO Summit

In keeping with the rich tradition of producing outstanding educational programs, NCPERS is proud to unveil the Chief Investment Officer Summit. The CIO Summit is the culmination of extensive research and engagement with our membership over the course of 12 months in 2016. NCPERS worked with a small group of public plan CIOs, interviewed nearly 20 public pensions, and conducted a membership-wide survey on the needs of public pension investment staff. A consistent theme from this field research was a desire and need of CIOs—particularly mid-market plan CIOs—to learn, network, and share with peers.

The CIO Summit seeks to fill this need. This participant-driven program will focus on the distinct investment challenges mid-market plans face, and work collaboratively to find solutions to them. Attendees will also explore ways that NCPERS can strengthen its investment focus and resources for professional staff and all members.

A few unique features of the CIO Summit are:
  • Attendees are CIOs, or their designated senior surrogate, from funds with assets between $2 billion and $60 billion.
  • It will be limited to 40 attendees to promote active participation and discussion.
  • The agenda will be developed by peer, mid-market, CIOs.
  • It will be closed to marketers from the vendor community.
2018 CIO Summit
June 14 - 15
Westin O'Hare Hotel
Chicago, IL

After careful deliberation, NCPERS has decided to postpone the 2017 CIO Summit. The concept and inherent value of the Summit was to provide a CIO driven educational program that fostered collaboration and discussion among peers.
Unfortunately, we were not getting the feedback and level of participation we had hoped from the community. We recognize the effect the short notice and inability to budget for this year's Summit had on member participation. Therefore, instead of hosting a program with a dozen participants, we decided to postpone until next year. The CIO Summit will now be held June 14 - 15, 2018 in Chicago. A full refund will be issued to registered attendees.
Over the next 12 months, we will continue to engage with the NCPERS community and our investment professionals, in particular, to ensure that we provide everyone ample notice. We will also continue to refine the program, with our collaborators, to craft an agenda with unique content that adds value to the public plan CIOs and investment staff.
Please let us know if you have any comments or questions. We look forward to hosting you at the CIO Summit June 14 - 15, 2018 in Chicago.
