2008: New Orleans Public School System
In 2008, through the generous donations of NCPERS Corporate Members, individual donors, and fundraising activities, NCPERS Charitable Foundation was able to raise $90,934 to help renovate and rebuild deserving classrooms in the New Orleans public school system. The money we raised supported the efforts of the Bridging the Gap Challenge, a project that seeks to improve the learning environment for New Orleans public school students by renovating classrooms, libraries, or media rooms that are in need of restoration. Through competitive application processes in 2008 and 2009, the following three classrooms were chosen for restorations.
- 2008: Joseph S. Clark HS (Recovery School District) - Special Needs Classroom: Total expenditure $8,996.29. (see photos)
- 2009: Eleanor McMain HS (NOPS) - Arts Classroom: Total Expenditure $17,757.31. (see photos)
- MLK School for Science & Technology (Charter) - Science Class/Lab room: Estimated Expenditure $29,502 (see photos)
Because much of the labor is donated by professionals or is done by volunteers, NCPERS Charitable Foundation has been financing mostly materials and supply costs. As a result, we still have approximately $34,679 of the $90,934 left. We will support a third round of the Bridging the Gap Challenge and help fund the renovation of additional classrooms in 2010!
