Call for Speakers: NCPERS Conferences

For our 3 flagship conferences, held at rotating locations throughout the country, we invite NCPERS members to submit speaker proposals. Keep reading to learn more about what sets these conferences apart, and find answers to frequently asked questions below.

Annual Conference & Exhibition

Speakers take the stage in front of more than 800 public pension trustees, staff and industry stakeholders during NCPERS Annual Conference & Exhibition (ACE). Held every May, the Annual Conference & Exhibition program features a mix of concurrent and general sessions, making it a perfect fit for varying experience levels and areas of focus.

As the longest-running educational conference for state and local public pensions, NCPERS Annual Conference & Exhibition has become an essential event for trustees, administrators, state and local officials, and service providers seeking to advance their knowledge and connections. It's your premier source for public pension education.

NCPERS Fall Conference and Public Safety Conference are held in alternating years in October. The Public Safety Conference is held in even-numbered years, while the Fall Conference is held in odd-numbered years. 

NCPERS Fall Conference

NCPERS Fall Conference brings together nearly 400 pension leaders, trustees, and stakeholders biennually in October.

A smaller setting than the Annual Conference facilitates continued learning in a focused, discussion-driven setting. Varied session formats allow for engaging speaking opportunities that blend core topics (i.e. financial, actuarial, legislative, and legal) with emerging issues. 

As NCPERS newest conference, this event is designed for trustees, administrators, and pension staff at all experience levels. Join us next in Newport Beach, CA on October 24-27, 2027.

Public Safety Conference

As the only national event dedicated to the unique challenges of public safety pension systems, NCPERS Public Safety Conference brings together nearly 400 public safety pension leaders, trustees, and stakeholders biennually in October.

Since 1985, NCPERS Public Safety Conference has provided critical education and insights for those managing the retirement security of police officers, firefighters, and other first responders, who face higher risks, earlier retirements, and distinct pension considerations compared to other public-sector employees. Eligibility & Membership

Find answers to questions on speaker eligibility and NCPERS membership. 

NCPERS members with relevant expertise, professional experience, or a compelling perspective on public pensions, public sector benefits, governance, investment practices, or related topics may apply.
You may submit a proposal before your membership dues are paid. However, dues must be current before the speaker is confirmed to present. Proposals from organizations that do not complete their membership renewal will not be accepted.
CorPERS members receive priority consideration during the review process. While CorPERS status does not guarantee acceptance, it does place your proposal in the priority review group.

 

Submission & Selection Process

All proposals must be submitted through NCPERS’ online submission form during an open Call for Speakers period. Please complete all required fields. Incomplete submissions cannot be reviewed or considered.

NCPERS welcomes proposals that offer practical insights, research, innovations, or real-world experiences that support public pension trustees, administrators, staff, and stakeholders. Topic categories being considered include, but are not limited to:

  • Economic landscape affecting public pension plans
  • Investments and financial principles
  • Actuarial principles

  • Legislative and regulatory developments

Yes. You can submit multiple proposals as long as each one is complete and distinct.
The topic category, session title, brief description, 2–3 learning objectives, contact information for a point of contact and the proposed speaker(s), session format, level of expertise for the session, and the length of time needed.

All submissions are reviewed by the NCPERS Education and Events Team. Proposals are evaluated on several factors, including:

  • Educational value and practical application
  • Relevance and timeliness
  • Originality of content and perspective
  • Presenter expertise
  • Active NCPERS membership status

Selections are made with the goal of creating a balanced, high-quality program that meets the needs of our members and attendees.
Notifications are sent within a defined review window after the call for speakers closes. The specific timeline will be posted on the submission page.
Proposals received after the deadline will be reviewed and placed on a waiting list after the submissions received on time. If space opens on the agenda, we may reach out to speakers on the waiting list.

 

Requirements & Expectations

Yes. All speakers must register to attend the conference. CorPERS members receive one complimentary speaker registration. Additional speakers will need to register at the standard rate.
NCPERS does not generally provide honoraria or reimburse travel for proposals submitted through the open call.
Yes. Panels and co-presented sessions are welcome. Each speaker must be listed.
Most sessions are scheduled for 30 to 45 minutes unless specified otherwise.
Yes. Presentations and materials must be provided in advance for review. Confirmed speakers will be given the submission deadline in advance.
No. Sessions must remain educational and noncommercial. Case studies can reference products, tools, or services if the focus stays on practical insights rather than promotion.

 

Changes & Cancellations

Find information on our speaker policies and procedures. 

Please notify us as soon as possible. Submitting a replacement presenter is helpful when feasible.
Some sessions are recorded. We will let you know in advance if yours will be. Session slides are distributed to attendees. If you prefer not to have your slides shared, you can let us know.

All speakers must hold active NCPERS membership before the speaker presents. Selected speakers are required to submit all final materials by the deadlines provided. Presentations should be designed to engage the audience, and interactive elements, discussion prompts, and practical takeaways are encouraged. All content must be educational, unbiased, and free of promotional intent. Speakers are expected to follow NCPERS policies on content, conduct, and diversity and inclusion throughout the planning and delivery of their session.
