Public Safety Conference Call for Speakers

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A SESSION?
We are looking for sessions that provide a great learning experience (not a commercial for a product or service) and that are lively, entertaining, innovative, informative and interactive.  

TYPE OF SESSION
Our sessions are typically lecture-style or panel discussion presentations given in 30, 45, or 60 minutes time slots depending on the subject matter and number of presenters.

AUDIENCE
Attendees of the Public Safety Conference include trustees and staff members of fire, police and other first responder pension systems. Other attendees may include representatives of plan sponsors, unions and retiree groups. Also, in attendance are service providers such as asset managers, custodial banks, investment consultants, lawyers and actuaries. 

WHAT ARE THE TOPICS BEING CONSIDERED FOR THE CONFERENCE?
  • Addressing Unique Challenges to Administering Public Safety Plans
  • Reducing and Managing Stress for Public Safety Personnel
  • Developments/Improvements to Evaluation Disability Claims
  • Latest in Health Care Impacting Public Safety
  • Sustainability of DROP Plans

WHAT ARE THE SELECTION CRITERIA?
  • Educational value of proposed program
  • Originality and uniqueness of proposed program
  • Relevance of topic
  • Diversity of proposed speaker
  • Overall quality of submission
  • Past review/evaluation of proposed speaker (if applicable) and;
  • Membership and active participation in NCPERS (CorPERS members will receive preferred consideration).

SPEAKER EXPECTATIONS
If your proposal is accepted, NCPERS expects speakers to adhere to the following:
  • Commit to presenting in-person at the conference location.
  • Commit to meeting all speaker deadlines.
  • If co-presenting with another speaker, commit to working together to coordinate your presentations to ensure cohesiveness.
  • Commit to sharing your presence at the conference with your social networks (i.e. Twitter and Facebook).

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Please review the information below and submit your proposal by Monday, August 5.

 
1. MEMBERSHIP
Speaking at all NCPERS conferences is reserved for NCPERS members only. Your membership dues must be current for 2024 to be considered. Please contact membership@ncpers.org if you are unsure of your membership status.
 
2. TITLE OF PRESENTATION
Your title should capture the topic/subject area that will be covered.
 
3. BRIEF SUMMARY/DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENTATION
Please summarize what attendees will learn from this presentation. Your description should provide a clear understanding of what your session is about and the main points to be discussed. NOTE: PowerPoint presentations, white papers or articles are not acceptable submissions for your description. 
 
4. CONTACT INFORMATION 
Your proposed session will be evaluated on the topic presented as well as the proposed speaker. Please include contact information for your speaker and anyone else who should be contacted regarding your proposal. Email addresses required.
 
5. SUBMIT TO

6. SELECTION PROCESS
The deadline to submit a proposal is August 5, 2024.  Proposal selections will be communicated in early September 2024.
