Who Should Attend NCPERS Legislative Forum & Policy Day?

Legislative Forum: Pension trustees, pension staff members, plan sponsors, and public plan stakeholders. We also encourage service providers of public pension community to attend and gain a deeper understanding of the critical issues impacting both current and prospective clients.

Policy Day: This is designed for public pension trustees, administrators, staff, and public sector employees who are passionate about advocating for retirement security. It's an ideal event for those looking to engage directly with lawmakers and influence legislative decisions that impact public pension systems.

Effective Advocacy Starts with Understanding the Policy Landscape

Leading up to the Legislative Forum & Policy Day, NCPERS provides access to resources to equip its members for effective advocacy year-round.

  • State-Level Pension Legislation Tracking Report (login required): NCPERS tracks state-level legislation that impacts pension systems, including changes to plan design, eligibility, or administration, funding of pension systems, and statewide retirement savings programs. 
  • Pension Fund Government Affairs/Advocacy Roundtable: Connect virtually with fellow pension fund staff responsible for advocacy efforts on this member-only roundtable. Each month, this group meets via Zoom to ask questions, share ideas, and crowdsource solutions. 
  • Public Pension Defense Toolkit (login required): You'll find legislative action checklists, case studies, templates for what local or regional media outreach efforts built to support retirement security for all public employees should contain, and more.

Current registration rates are listed on our website. Registration includes access to all sessions, educational materials, scheduled meals, and networking events. There is a separate fee for Policy Day.
Onsite registration is available unless the event sells out. We encourage early registration to guarantee space. Sign up to be notified when registration opens.
Sessions will focus on current legislative and regulatory developments, policy trends affecting public pensions, and the potential impact of proposed legislation. Topics may include federal and state policy updates, litigation trends, and broader political considerations relevant to public retirement systems.
Yes. Attendees who book in the group block will receive the NCPERS discounted room rate while rooms are available. Booking details and deadlines are listed on the registration page under the hotel tab.
Yes. We share slides for sessions where speakers have given permission on our website and in the event app (when applicable).
No. The sessions are open to everyone. If the program includes limited-capacity workshops, we will specify in advance if sign-ups are required.
No. The Legislative Forum is offered in person only. Sessions will not be recorded.

Yes. Continuing education credits will be available, and details on applicable credit hours will be shared once the program is finalized. Please note that this program does not offer CPE credits, as NCPERS is not currently a CPE sponsor.
After your attendance is verified, your certificate will be posted to your NCPERS membership profile within two weeks of the event.

Frequently Asked Questions: NCPERS Policy Day

No. Policy Day is designed for participants at all experience levels. An orientation session will be held at the Legislative Forum and at the Policy Day breakfast to review the schedule, discuss advocacy best practices, and outline key talking points.
NCPERS schedules meetings with Members of Congress and congressional staff based on each participant’s home state and district. Attendees will receive their meeting schedules prior to Policy Day. To avoid duplicate requests and scheduling conflicts, participants should not schedule their own congressional meetings.
Whenever possible, meetings are scheduled with Members of Congress. When they are unavailable, meetings will be held with senior congressional staff who handle retirement and financial policy issues.
Discussions will focus on broad policy issues affecting public pensions, including funding, governance, and regulatory considerations. NCPERS will provide background materials and suggested discussion points in advance.
Yes. There is a registration fee for Policy Day. The fee includes participation in the orientation session, scheduled congressional meetings, and meals or events listed on the agenda.
Registration includes the Policy Day orientation, congressional meeting scheduling and coordination, educational materials, and any meals or networking events noted on the agenda.
Policy Day takes place on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Specific meeting locations and logistics details will be shared with registered participants.
Yes. Participants may bring printed materials or business cards. NCPERS will also provide guidance on appropriate materials to share during meetings.
Business attire is recommended for all Policy Day activities, including congressional meetings.
