Cassandra Smoot, CMP

Senior Director of Operations

Cassandra Smoot is the Senior Director of Operations at NCPERS, where she leads the planning and execution of the organization’s in-person and virtual educational programs and events.
In addition to overseeing NCPERS events, she collaborates with the Executive Director on day-to-day operations and serves as a trustee on the NCPERS Defined Benefit Plan.

Before joining NCPERS, Cassandra was the Education Program Manager at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), where she managed APhA’s Annual Meeting (6,000 attendees) and smaller educational programs. She worked with the Professional Education team to implement over 95 educational programs, secure sponsorships, and oversee peer-reviewed abstract submissions for exhibition and publication.

Earlier in her career, she was an Associate for Professional Education at the American Kidney Fund, where she organized educational programs, public health fairs, and special events for renal professionals.

Cassandra holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from The Catholic University of America and a master’s degree in organizational management from The George Washington University. She is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and Digital Event Strategist (DES).
