State Budgets & Public Pensions: What to Watch in the Next Budget Cycle
State Budgets & Public Pensions: What to Watch in the Next Budget Cycle
As states begin planning for their next budget cycle, public pension leaders must understand the fiscal and economic trends shaping budget decisions. Join NCPERS and the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) for a timely discussion on the current state budget landscape, emerging revenue and spending trends, and what they may mean for public pension systems.
The session will also highlight new research on measuring and strengthening the long-term financial sustainability of public pensions. NCPERS analyzed more than 20 years of data to evaluate the relationship between long-term pension obligations and the economic capacity that supports them. The findings reveal significant progress nationwide, with 48 states now meeting or outperforming their historical sustainability benchmarks. Attendees will gain valuable insights to help inform planning, policy discussions, and strategic decision-making.
